Live like a London girl #2: Dalston

Dalston easter Cure garden

London is the ideal city to leave your guide book behind, the best hoods are just outside the touristy zone one
A great one to get lost in, is Hackney going from Stoke Newington to Dalston, Put on some sneakers, grab a bike, the Santander bikes are everywhere, start at the park and take Clissold Road continuing on Nevill Road and a few pretty backstreets till you arrive at Dalston Junction.
Opposite the station you can rest your feet, or park your bike at the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, a respite from the buzzing streets, a city garden maintained by the residents. Soak up some sun, with free wifi and a cafe.
Another great option to fuel up Allpress further down the road on Dalston Lane. In a converted factory you can find one of the best roasters in London, they started as a coffee cart in New Zealand and now have independent coffee shops all over. They serve great sandwiches that you can enjoy on their lovely terrace.
For a alternative high tea head cross the road, to Wilton Way to Violet Cakes, The proprietor, Claire Ptak, worked for three years as a pastry cook for Alice Waters at Chez Panisse. It is a bit out of the way, but worth it for the  scones, brownies, muffins, and sandwiches and little pots of tea.
You can end your day on London Fields Lido, an animated and lively park, with and Olympic-sized pool, heated and open year-round. Get inspired by the folks training for triathlons and hop in.  It is the best park in London to barbecue and people watch, and on Saturdays you can buy your provisions from Broadway Market on the South Side of the park.
And and take the tube home from there.
