Our Laundry Room redux

Seeing old photos and videos of our house always leaves me in disbelief. I knew it needed work, but I didn't realize just how much. It's amazing to think we saw potential in it. The location was undoubtedly the main draw, but the transformation is incredible. As we finished the laundry room, I was surprised to discover that we had torn down a wall there; I had completely forgotten about that.

I can't remember the last time I looked at the old greenish flooring without shaking my head in disbelief. The unnecessary corridor in front of it always made me wonder if the architect was playing a prank on us. It's like they thought, "Let's throw in a random hallway just to keep things interesting." Well, sorry unnecessary corridor, but you're now a thing of the past.

The old laundry room:

That room was a true test of my painting skills. I vividly recall shivering as I layered on the Farrow and Ball all white paint, praying that it would magically transform the space. I kept thinking about all the other rooms I still had to tackle, and I questioned if I'd ever finish. But now that it's done! It's very difficult to find a good carpenter in Italy, especially in this area. They are all busy working for the large camping grounds and resorts, and never have time for smaller projects. We had to make the wood frame above the washer and dryer by ourselves, and it took a long time for them to cut a piece of oak for us. But eventually, it was done. Marlon reworked and stained it, and now it's perfect. (Unlike the pine shelves in the bathroom that still need to be painted).

We didn't want to spend a lot here, so we reused an Ikea cupboard we had and added a Pax for all our cleaning supplies (so satisfying having them all neatly tucked away).

I put in the same type of washbasin and found a traditional-looking faucet. We still had one of our silver mythical sigh bath towel hooks, and voilà. The travertine shelf was the only thing we kept from before. I added a few Zara Home baskets, and now I want to print one of my photos or a few to hang there. I might also add some extra lighting and maybe a smaller shelf. But seriously, watching the "before" footage fills me with so much joy and surprise. Keep that in mind when you're knee-deep in renovations!
