Now that the floors are in, and the walls have been plastered, we are almost ready to install our kitchen in the Lucca pad. It'll be an Ikea kitchen cabinets, and for now, I am going with the original cabinet Ekestad doors. I liked the wood color; only once they will feel dated, I will replace them with A.S. Helsingo ones. For now, they go quite nicely with the vibe of the house. Marlon choose the sink; he saw the Inox farmhouse sink that had just arrived at Ikea and was smitten so that I couldn't refuse. I had my doubts about it, I would have favored a sunken rectangular one, but I do trust his instincts—and I'm not one to step away from a design challenge, meaning make the sink look rustic and chic instead of hospital-like, sorry that the first thing that springs to mind.
I wanted a concrete countertop, but paired with the inox farmhouse sink, it will look too severe. But I do adore a concrete countertop, so I keep it in mind for my next project, the beachy kitchen of my dreams.
We had started researching how to pour concrete on an Ikea kitchen, if you are looking for a nice DYI, The Chris loves Julia is still the best. The cons of concrete countertops are finding the right sealant and the concern that it may crack. For that reason, we have also explored alternatives. I discovered some impressive Concrete lookalikes. I'll certainly use one of these; they are just more convenient, long-lasting, and less labor-intensive.
Here are my favorite concrete countertops alternatives.
The most affordable option would be a Formica countertops. The designs are impressive. Of course they are less long-lasting and resistant the other options. But if you crave the look for less, it is the way to go, check out Concrete Stone or Elemental concrete at Homedepot
These net two are my personal favorites. The quartz countertops by Cambria, and I would go for the Buxton or Carrick
I wrote about our Dekton countertop here, we used it for our last kitchen. There we went for a Marble vein, but their concrete slabs are gorgeous. I like their Blanc Concrete and the grey Keon color.
Or you could go for a solid surface composite, like they sell at Lowe's, especially the concrete grey color.it is less heat resistant, but an affordable alternative.
Do you like concrete countertops? Any tips?
